  2. Edie Says:

I am huge fan of AVG Free 7.5. I’ve been reading some negative reviews of 8.0 Free on CNET saying that email scanning is only good for 30 days. Have you experienced this? Not sure if I want to upgrade from 7.5 to 8.0 now.

  3. Darcy Bottaro Says:

    Hi Edie

I checked it out for you and this is what I have found.

    Check out this website http://free1.grisoft.com/ww.news.ndi-93837

This is what I understand from the website is that AVG Free 8.0 does not include any “trial” or “time-out” functionality so the email scanning shouldn’t be a issue.

Also if you would like to see the differences between the free and paid version go here http://free1.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

Also I have personally checked out AVG Antivirus 8.0(free adition) and don’t see anything that says it has only 30 days.

  4. David Says:

    I use AntiVir from http://www.free-av.com/
I have for several years and I have had very little problems with viruses.

I also use this online scan from time to time or if I think I have a virus and AntiVir is not detecting it properly which is from http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

  5. Gert Hough Says:

Antivirus Software is like enjin for your car. The more you use the car the more it depends on the oil. I myself has in the past 10 years never really been affected by any kind of computer virus.

I have been using AVG 8 and I have been really keen on promoting their software. I have a huge interest looking into nod32 as they are reported to be the champs of all antivirus software competitors but they do not have a free version.

I agree on AVG being great. Having AVG8 installed all you still need to do is to stay clear of risky browsing and keeping your copy of AVG antivirus software updated.

  6. Craig Says:

I’ve been using Symantec’s Norton Anti Virus for over 3 years. I’ve not been infected with any viruses within that time. I’m also very cautious when I surf – I learned my lesson, the hard way, back in 2000.

  7. Psychic Advice Says:

PC Tools Free Edition Antivirus Software
You can Download from my Website PC Security at Home.
    http://www.pctools.com/

    1. Used PC Tools products in the past and liked them.

    2. Installed uses 30mb of disk space and when running uses 23mb on Ram.

    3. Intelli-scan took 11 seconds and full scan in 18 minutes on a 16G hard drive.

    4. Seems to keep the virus data files updated frequently?

    5. One thing I have like about PC Tools products in the easy to use interface.

    6. So far no Viruses to detect or removed.

    7. Help and Support, no support for free version.

    8. I wish the free toolbars were not installed by default, how many toolbars do we need?

  9. John Austin Says:

    Cyberdefender

#1 Been using CyberDefender for 3 months now, caught some trojans and malware.

#2 Don’t know, but it installed quick and I don’t think it takes much room.

#3 Scan takes about 20 minutes to fullly scan my 200GB drive

#4 Tells me almost everyday that got an update.

#5 I like the 2GB of back-up and 24/7 support for the paid version. Also Cyberdefender is a NASDAQ company so the have some accountability.

#6 Yeah, my system got hammered by some evil virus trojan thingy, and it was bad. My poor lovable h0m8-systim, it really took over the browser and had some word problems.

First I tried PC Tools, which found some stuff, and thought it was OK, but still had browser and word problems. So I tried Cyberdefender, and it found even more stuff. Afterwards my system worked ok.

I like that it looks for trojans, malware and sypware – not just viruses. I liked it enough, that I paid for the upgrade, cuz I wanted the back-up, and the ability to contact someone at Cyberdefender who will answer any of my (or my sons) questions.

    # 7 No help with free version, but the paid version comes with 24/7 help for ANY computer problem – now that is great, my wife used it while I was away and the computer had a problem, they fixed it no problem.

    # 8 Came with a MyIdentityDefender toolbar which help identify phishing and other scams, I like it and find it usefull.

    Oh,

    1. Really like how light it is on systems resources if you have a computer with 512mb or less of memory this software can really help.

    2. Installed uses 18mb of Ram.

    4. Seems to keep the virus data files updated frequently?

    5. Easy to use interface.

    6. So far no Viruses to detect or removed.

    7. Help and Support, They have a forum, no support needed so far.

  14. steve Says:

The optimal solution is Kaspersky antivirus in terms of protection and performance.
BitDefender is a great solution if you have a high end system with say 1 GB of RAM. ESET NOD 32 is another good solution. A free solution would be Antivir.
I would rank them in the following order.
    Kaspersky
    BitDefender
    ESET Nod 32
    Antivir
Don’t go for Norton. It freezes the system and offers only minimal protection.

  15. Melanie Says:

I want to write a criticism of CA Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. They don’t seem to know what they are doing, the software often doesn’t work or can’t update, and the answers they send are all standard, not personally applicable. I had to reinstall my software about 20 times over a 4-month period. I finally just quit, even though they wouldn’t give a refund for the period left. I changed to Avira, a wonderful German product, and the first scan found 10 viruses, some of which had been there for 3 months, not caught by the CA scan.

  16. Mounish Ambaliya Says:

I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0 Licensed 3 Users Version. And Its Just Waste Of My Money And Data. Its Just Irresisteble, and gives no security against daily viruses. I have my work of uploding data on websites as i work in a software company. I daily have to upload around 50 pages on different sites we work on. And its like even after using this anti virus we always find our sites infected due to our systems. So Kaspersky is just of no use.

The main infections are some zaggyy javascripts and iframes and some php codes added to my scripts on ftp.

Can any one suggest me how to keep secured my all ftp sites.

    Thanks & Regards
    Ambaliya Mounish

Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. :) Cheers! Sandra. R.

  18. cheap antivirus Says:

AVG is surely one of the solid security protection around. It consistently performs above the average.
There are so many criticism about Norton no matter how good Symantec has overhaul the engine in its newest version (2009 and 2010 lineup), making it one of the fastest security protection around.
On the other hand, Kaspersky has been the favorite among those who think they are tech guys no matter how good other competitors have caught them up.
CheckPoint ZoneAlarm lineup has solid firewall feature and probably one of the less expensive product out there.
ESET is the most easy on system resource. so easy that it only needs memory not more than 64 Megs although still good in securing our pcs.

  19. Eugene Says:

    Hello.
List time i use Kaspersky, but time to time i am thinking about Norton antivirus.
Did you compare these two products ? Whom of them is better, has best protection level ?

    Thanks,
    Eugene.

avira is best anti virus software even free one.believe or not it really is even that commercial organizations are running there pcs and privacy softwares on it’s behalf.not only that its most obvious features is that it is really light and does not slow the speed of system.
    try it …………….

  22. av fan Says:

thanks for the great info… avg never dispointed me when i pays the legal license. when using the free version i notice that its has limitation but its work fine for basic user. as i am medium user, using a database and a system need a great security.

  23. Eugene Says:

There are many feature that you have to know when choosing antivirus software.
As for me, important features are:
    – speed ;
    – low memory using;
    – effetive work;
    – good support;
    – virus database updating;

I think that user have to read reviews and try trial versions of software. You have to know what you choose.
As for me, i think that Norton, Kaspersky, Trend Micro are good antivirus software.

    Thanks

Now a computer virus is very diverse. Every day can certainly find a new virus variant. If not careful then just get ready for more hard work to clean it up. I have a good link for you to protect your computer from virus attacks in http://www.eset-nod32-antivirus.co.uk

  28. Dan Says:

Well the baisc question is wrong, it should be named “best anti-malware software”, my advice would be to find a good anti-malware program which also includes protection for viruses.

  29. Tisha Sharma Says:

I found Avast antivirus to be quite efficient to provide security to e-mail client, web browser and chatting software… And it provides some very good services like

Install and update latest and compatible security software…

    Remove Viruses, Spyware and Adware

    Windows Update

    Update important software patches

Troubleshoot Internet and other software conflicts

  30. Antivirus Says:

Hey, hopefully someone can make use of this:

If you are having issues running virus scanners whilst your computer is turned on, try to start into ‘Safe Mode’.

If you’re using a version of Windows, you’ll be able to do this. (Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 7)

    Safe Mode:
    Turn computer off
Turn computer on whilst tapping F8. When prompted select ‘safe mode with networking’
When prompted, click Yes & start into Windows as normal.

    Kaspersky

    1. Why do you think this Antivirus Software is the the best? I have used it since version 6.0 until now Kaspersky 2011. Virus detection rates is the best of all other than ESET Nod32

    2. System Utilization? 256MB RAM is adequate to run Kaspersky. But 1GB memory RAM is highly recommended. Kaspersky 2011 has better performance now and it has reduce the system resources usage

    3. How fast is the Antivirus Software? Never check how fast, but i believe fast enough.

    4. Did it get updated frequently? Every few hours and daily

    5. How easy was it to use? It’s simple and easy

    6. Was the software effective in removing the Virus? Highly effect. In fact all viruses from external storage media will not be able to enter computer that is protected by Kaspersky because it has auto scan

    7. Help and Support, were you happy with the support or help? Absolutely. Anyway kaspersky has not much problem at all

    8. Anything else you would like to comment on about the Antivirus Software? Kaspersky is my only choice since then, now and forever i think.

  35. antivirus doctor Says:
